About Dalston

Est. 1746

Dalston is an East London gem that has managed to keep its off-the-beaten-path vibe despite becoming one of the most popular centres for stylish Londoner’s.  Lying North and North East of Shoreditch and Hoxton, yet still West of Hackney, Dalston has attracted a fashion conscious community that reflects its history as an outlier, distant from the industrial and commercial hubs closer to the central and City districts.

As a home to a variety of cultures in its more recent history, a trip through Dalston’s famous Ridley Street Market (famously the setting for Eastenders’ Walford Market) brings you Caribbean, Turkish, and most recently Vietnamese cuisine which has found a home in E8. Current fashion royalty residents include Christopher Kane and Jimmy Choo amongst others, who have taken to the eccentric and optimistic attitude that flows from the unpolished feel and look.  Dalston is a cultural hotspot, home to the Rio Cinema that provides first-run films, various festivals, and all night shows.

Gillet Square is an outlet for Dalston’s creative energy where carnival and Mardi Gras celebrations will be the focal point as well as being a platform for local producers to sell their goods.  A mention of Dalston’s electric nightlife and music scene is unavoidable, from the adventurous music of Cafe Oto, the club atmosphere of Barden’s Boudoir and the Vortex Club, one of London’s greatest jazz venues.  Dalston’s energy extends to its independent shops so come here to find weird and wonderful wares that reflect the originality and creativity of the E8 postcode.
